See the "about me" profile to the right to learn what this is all about. Listed below are the 1st suggested names. Click on "comments" below to see the current vote tally. Please respond/blog your vote or a suggestion for another name by clicking on the pencil icon at the bottom:

Kichi Saga Lake - This region was known by the natives as Kichi Saga prior to the settlers arriving in the 1850's. The name Chisago comes from this word.

Lindberg Lake - Karl Lindberg farmed his whole life on the West side of the lake. The main penninsula of land on the lake is named Lindberg Point on the maps. Karl was a HUGE community activist including County Commissioner. This would be a great tribute to him and the Swedish heritage his name and this community came from.

Ojiketa Lake - This is the name of the Camp Fire Girls camp on the East side of the lake and obviously would also be appropriate. Ojiketa is an Ojibwa name meaning "Sweetness of Life"

What do you think? What suggestions would you give? Click on the word "comments" below to see the vote tally and/or click on the pencil icon to vote and leave your suggestions. Thanks for participating.

I live in Ridge Point and am active in the Ojiketa Preservation Society--my vote is for OJIKETA LAKE--Ojiketa is said to mean "Sweetness of Life" in Ojibwa, which seems particularly fitting.

Camp Ojiketa has been a part of Chisago City history since 1926. With the establisment of Ojiketa Regional Park, on the former camp site, it seems to me that Lake Ojiketa would be a good choice for a new name.

Gayle Carney states:

OJIKETA LAKE is the best choice. It is rich in history and memories for so many people.

My vote is for Ojiketa Lake. I agree with Jeanne that the meaning of Ojiketa makes the name particularly fitting. Moreover, the name is a natural considering the establishment of the Ojiketa Regional Park.

Lindberg Lake would also be a great name, but Ojiketa would seem to fit perfectly...anything but Green.

As a former Ojiketan, my choice would naturally be Ojiketa Lake, although I really prefer Lake Ojiketa.

Adair says that I vote for Ojiketa Lake. I feel that this would be very fitting to go along with the new Ojiketa Regional Park which will truely be "Sweetness of Life" for all in the community.

Ojiketa Lake, of course.

Ojiketa Lake would be perfect with the long history of the camp, and now with Ojiketa being the name of the new park.

I would vote for "Lake Ojiketa" as long as someone has confirmed that it does, indeed, mean "sweetness of life," and not something like "green & slimy!"

I have already posted my vote but I am contacting you because I have talked to a lot of people who are having trouble getting to the comment page on the blog so that they can vote. Please give clearer instructions on the first page. Thank you.

As a former camper, I would be delighted to return to Ojiketa Lake someday and show it to my kids.

I vote for Lake Ojiketa as the Regional Park with that name will be on its shore. Evelyn

This is the first that I have heard of renaming Green Lake. My first choice would be to keep it "Green Lake". After all, that is the name of the lake, we as campers, sang about in our songs there! Doesn't renaming take a little away from the history of Camp Ojiketa? Remember "High on Green Lake Hill"?
But if everyone is insistent on changing the name, then I think Lake Ojiketa is the only choice!

Lake Ojiketa sound good to me and the meaning is perfect!

Although Carl was a wonderful man and a dear friend, I must say that Ojiketa Lake would resonate best in today's and tomorrow's diversity.

There is nothing wrong with "Going Green"! Green Lake has been a significant part of my life for over 50 years now. I'm offended that a "resident for 22 years" deems it necessary to come along and change something so established as the name of our dear Green Lake. Put your energy into something more worthwhile - like the way the level of the lake has risen year after year, eroding away resident shoreline!
Thank you for making this comment blog available.
